Transition Streets is an exciting, informative energy efficiency and community and neighborhood building program that is FREE to official Transition Town Initiatives like ours, Transition Fort Collins. It was co-created with U.S. cities and
Transition U.S. (http://www.transitionus.org/)
The Transition Streets program consists of a 7-unit handbook, complete with facilitators' guides you can use for meetings you host in your home with interested neighbors you have invited.
The handbook includes chapters on the following: 1) Introduction to the program, how to implement 2) energy, 3) water, 4) waste, 5) food, and 6) transportation efficiencies for your home and/or neighborhood, and 7) closure and celebration with food and fun!
This program has many benefits, but here is the main ones: You can save money on utilities, you can implement lifestyle practices that are healthier for yourself and the environment, you can have fun with your neighbors and build resilient community, and contribute to the city’s climate action plan - ALL while implementing the program!
Transition Streets was first offered in Spring 2017 under the auspices of Transition Fort Collins and the city of Fort Collins Neighborhood Connections project. We offered this course to our neighbors and members of Neighborhood Connections and highlighted many of the City of Fort Collins resources for homeowners. We had such a good time, we decided to create a new program, called Green Renters so that the renters in our community could join in!
