The Larimer county Tiny House rules I found (https://www.larimer.org/building/Tiny_Houses.pdf) say that family members can live in an RV on the property of an existing house for 180 days but that friends cannot live in an RV(or tiny home on wheels) on the property of an existing house.
Does anyone know how tiny house dwellers locally are getting around that? Is this rule being enforced? Might this rule change? Are people checking if RV dwellers are friends or family?
It seems like it would make it very hard for someone to go Tiny since getting a lot just for the tiny house is very expensive compared to price of house so they need to be able to move into an existing lot with existing water, etc.
Thanks for any information!
Hi Cameron - you are right about the restrictions in the County. At this point, its a matter of expression of political will of the community to get an ordinance change by convincing the Fort Collins city council and to have the Larimer County Commissioners make rules changes. People have done that in other cities and counties - but the movement hasn't coalesced here yet. You can keep using this forum to discuss this issue. Some people are working on getting a legal tiny home community started in the city. If you want to learn more about where that's at, come to a meeting of Live Tiny at the Bean Cycle on the first Monday of each month at 7:00 and ask around for us. We usually sit at the tables up front.
Janice, would it be possible to have a status report on the work of the Live Tiny group?
